The Art and Me
About Me
My name is Jazz, I go by Jazzocreative or simply Jazzo.
I am a multidisciplinary artist, a wife, a sister, and a daughter, a student of the Arts (currently 2nd year at the University of Canberra Creative Industries - Visual arts) and of the culture, and I am an Australian-born woman with Samoan and Niuean heritage. I was born and raised in the sunny city of Logan, a place where rich cultural diversity thrives. Logan is a community where you make the most of what you’re given—a place shaped by circumstance rather than substance. For me, the southside has been both a safe haven, filled with cherished childhood memories thanks to my grandparents and sister, and a constant reminder to be grateful for what you have and the good people in your life.
A long time ago, I decided that my art would be a tribute to my life and culture. As I grew into my creativity, I spent my early years honing my ability to create something out of nothing, turning even the smallest experiences into creative expressions that reflect my life. Looking back now, I see how this has evolved on a grander scale, where I truly grasp the impact of what I create, both for myself and others. It’s only recently that I’ve embraced sharing my passion, recognizing that we live in a society eager to hear the stories of people of color and celebrate their expressions.
This is a path I’m committed to pursuing in my career and my journey towards a life of creativity. By sharing cultural expressions through my art and the work of others, I aim to provide representation and inspire young artists to explore their own creative paths if they feel the pull. I also seek to educate others by sharing the cultural art of my heritage, helping them understand and appreciate its history and significance.
I recognize that the motifs I use and the symbolism I recreate have existed long before me and will continue long after I’m gone. While I’m here, blessed with this talent and passion from God, I want to share my creations and stand alongside the artists I admire—those who create not just for themselves but for their culture, continually elevating the narrative of POC creativity.
As time goes on, I hope that my art, my social media, and my platform will contribute to introducing you to the richness of cultural expressions through a diasporic lens—my eyes—and help you appreciate the love, the art, and the pride that fuel my work.
All love,
Jazzo
Uni Life | Current Study
Uni life!
I spent seven years working in an admin job, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t where my heart was. After a lot of thought—and with the encouragement of my now-husband and family—I decided to take a leap of faith. I quit my job and enrolled in a Visual Arts Diploma at TAFE. That decision opened doors I never imagined, leading me to continue my studies at the University of Canberra through TAFE. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m so glad I followed my passion for art.
I am currently in my 2nd year at the University of Canberra, studying a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Visual Arts). So far my experience has been amazing. During my studies, I’ve been able to really refine my skills and passions, diving deep into different mediums and techniques. It’s been a time of exploration and growth, where I’ve started to truly figure out what I want to do as an artist. This journey has allowed me to hone my creative voice and gain a clearer sense of direction for where I want to take my art in the future.
University life has been a whole new experience, especially coming from a full-time job with the security that came with it. It was a bit challenging to adjust at first, but it’s truly been worth it. One of the best things that’s happened is that my sister is now studying with me at the University of Canberra—she’s pursuing music while I’m focused on art. It’s something I don’t think would’ve happened if I hadn’t taken that leap. This has been one of my favorite doors to open; getting to share this journey with someone I love is really special.
I'm sharing this as a personal reflection, but all in all I hope my journey inspires someone else to pursue a passion of theirs. Life is so short and so special, that we need to be looking at what brings us joy and do that!...
Whether we do or we don't, life continues to life and at the end of the day its what you make of it. Uni isn't for everyone and I'm not encouraging anyone to do drastic things like quit there job ahaha but if you want to do something you love or can do something really well that you want to pursue... my advice to you is to follow your passions and your heart. Betting on yourself will always be worth it.
What do i do?
Now it feels so weird to list all the things i can do, or that i enjoy doing... but i think its important for YOU to know but also for me to gain perspective of my current interests.
Drawing
My designs and drawings have always been a little love of mine. I grew up drawing in my school books and now in my sketch books. I have a bad habit of buying a new visual diary before I have finished, so I have so many visual diaries laying around my studio and home its not funny. My drawing has informed my current practice of creating designs. Currently I sell my designs to those looking to use them for their business products, for their own personal use and for tattoo's. Its actually crazy that people want to see my drawings in their home, let alone on their body haha.
Digital Art
PAINTING
I enjoy painting, though it hasn't always been a primary medium for me. However, my time during the degree has refined my painting techniques and significantly boosted my confidence.
WOOD BURNING
Wood burning appeals to me because it feels much like drawing. I enjoy the entire process, from preparing the wood and burning my design to varnishing and adding the finishing touches. The journey of working with the medium is something I truly relish.
SEWING
I have a fundamental grasp of sewing and design, thanks to my nena (grandmother), who taught me the basics when I was young. While I’m not skilled enough to create complete garments, I’m competent enough to handle simple sewing tasks. I recently made my cultural attire - something that I really enjoyed.

Why do i create?
WHY CREATE?
Creativity has always been a source of joy and self-expression for me. It has guided me through many experimental journeys, supported me during challenging times, and allowed me to communicate emotions when words fell short. Through creativity, I've been able to sing my happiness and paint my deepest feelings. This process has prompted me to ask profound questions about my inspirations and motivations, ultimately helping me explore what drives me to keep moving forward in life.
Just as pillars support a significant structure, these aspects of my personality uphold me during challenging times. They are the fundamental foundations of my core self.

My Spirit ~ My Future Family
My Aiga
My family means everything to me. They have been a steadfast presence from the beginning, and each member has instilled traits in me that have shaped who I am today. Their influence has profoundly impacted both my personal growth and my artistic journey. As Samoans, we are taught that family is so important.
My Siblings
As an older sister, I find motivation in my role every day. I strive to set an example for my younger siblings, showing them that anything is possible in life. I want to remind them that we can achieve our dreams and live the life we desire. They are my greatest motivators and a constant source of inspiration.
My Grandparents
Nena and Papa Faleva'ai | Nana and Papa Mose
The opportunity to embrace my culture and live the life I do now is due to the brave leap of faith my grandparents took when they migrated here from Samoa and Niue. I work diligently in their honor, driven by the knowledge that both sets of my grandparents would be proud to see me giving my best for our family.
My Husband
Over the years, I've realized that family also encompasses the people we choose. My husband and his family have become essential to my support system throughout my creative journey. Although they are relatively new to my life, their support and love have been remarkable. I make it a priority each day to express my gratitude and repay their generosity by making sure I work hard and stay consistent with my studies. My husband, in particular, has been a constant source of encouragement, urging me to pursue my passions and strive for excellence. His unwavering support motivates me to keep pushing forward and ensures that his efforts are never in vain.
My Purpose
I believe my purpose as an artist is to help others discover their creativity and create spaces that encourage cultural exploration. I am dedicated to contributing to the narrative of Pacific art by showcasing its immense beauty in my own way. My goal is to preserve these art forms and ensure they are not forgotten, working to foster a deeper appreciation for my cultural heritage.
Additionally, I aspire to inspire young Pacific artists to view the pathway to becoming a creative as a journey of self-discovery and true possibility. I want them to see creativity as a powerful means to express their unique perspectives and cultural identities. By highlighting the diverse pathways and opportunities within the creative field, I hope to encourage them to embrace their individuality and pursue their artistic passions with confidence and purpose.
My Culture
Honoring my culture through my art has always been a fundamental value for me. As an Australian-born Samoan-Niuean woman, I take great pride in my heritage. I see cultural art as a unique fusion of the past and present—both timeless and innovative. By creating and sharing art from my own perspective, I am dedicated to preserving and celebrating this rich cultural legacy. This commitment drives and motivates me to create, in hopes of inspiring others to explore their own cultural roots and appreciate the beauty of Pacifika art.
My Spirit
Although I was raised in a religious family with Christian values, I have grown into a more spiritual person in my adult life. I believe in a higher power and trust that there is a God and divine force watching over my family and I. In times of struggle, I rely on this faith, finding comfort in the belief that the Lord, my God, is guiding me and has a plan for my life. This assurance helps ease my anxiety, knowing that the things beyond my control are in the hands of my heavenly Father. Knowing this helps me to create freely and move with purpose.

Love at home
A personal motivation for me to live my best life and pursue my goals is the prospect of my future family. I am committed to working through my own emotional challenges so that my future children can grow up knowing they have the potential to achieve anything they set their minds to. I want them to have confidence in themselves and in their ability to navigate life with assurance and self-belief. Striving for a home filled with love, creativity, strength and stability.
These are my primary motivations in life and in my pursuit of a creative existence. While they may seem broad and life-centered, this reflects how deeply I connect my art to my heart and soul. These pillars provide me with grounding and focus, especially during times of doubt or discouragement. They support me when I’m feeling low and offer a baseline to help me pick myself up and continue moving forward.
